Log Cabin Farm Alpacas LLC
Log Cabin Farm Alpacas is located just below the crest of the green rolling hills of East Albany in Vermont’s “Northeast Kingdom”. (On the Barton Albany Road close to where East Albany meets West Glover, Barton and Irasburg). We are home to a small herd of densely fibered “Huacaya” Alpacas which we raise for their soft durable, and luxurious fiber, from which we have made high quality knitting yarns. We also sell our alpacas, both male and female, to new farmers as well as established breeders.
Alpacas are a very intelligent animal, easy on the land, and easy to take care of. With their annual fiber growth, they fit in perfectly in our cold northern climate and they enjoy our cool summers. We invite families and interested folks to come and tour our farm and learn all about these animals that the ancient Incas of South America considered “Gifts from The Gods”. We pride ourselves that our small northeastern Vermont farm carries some of the very best and most highly sought after genetics in the country. All of our alpacas are registered and pedigreed.
Here on our farm, we shear once a year using a technique that does not harm the alpacas. We then sort and skirt the fleece, and send the best to a local, “state-of-the-art” Vermont mill where it is washed, picked, carded and spun into four once skeins that are mostly Fingering weight, Sport weight or DK and light-medium worsted weight. This process creates yarn that is beautiful and incredibly warm, breathable, soft and durable. We also stock raw fiber and processed roving and batting for spinners and quilters.
In our on-site Fiber Store, we have most of the natural colors that alpaca fleece comes in (white, beige, several shades of fawn, browns and true black). We do not dye our yarn, but sort and have it spun by animal, so we can retain consistency of quality and color. We also stock beautiful handmade finished goods made from alpaca fiber including socks, gloves, hats, shawls, and scarfs. We accept cash and most credit cards.
We are typically open 10-4 weekdays and most weekends, with a phone call in advance suggested just to make sure. Call Jane at 802- 673-6441.
